Job Summary
Prepares, submits and records Department transactions. Prepares financial statements and reports. Reviews and analyzes general ledger accounts.
Responsibilities 1. Provides excellent customer service.
2. Prepares and submits Department financial transactions and journal entries.
3. Reviews transactions for accuracy, sufficient funding and proper approvals.
4. Reconciles Department accounts with the University accounting system.
5. Prepares and submits Departmental, University and Government reports.
6. Submits effort distribution changes, ePAFs and PARs.
7. Organizes and maintains Department financial records.
8. Participates in Department and external audits.
9. Assists with budget preparation and tracking.
10. Answers questions, corrects errors, resolves accounting-related issues and provides financial or other information as requested.
11. Interprets policies and recommends internal controls.
Problem Solving
The Senior Accountant cooperates with customers to resolve billing and accounting issues. He or she applies accounting standards, Federal and State laws and regulations, and University and Department policies and procedures to specific situations, and advises others on accounting for non-standard transactions.
This is a quality-focused, customer-facing position. Responsive service, proactive time-management and good communication skills are required. The Senior Accountant must independently manage numerous responsibilities and variable work flows.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalency, plus two years professional accounting experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices, knowledge of accounting software, advanced spreadsheet skills, the ability to write queries and macros and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills.
Certifications as a Certified Public Accountant may be preferred for certain positions. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
